AccessibilityThe Aquarium and its exhibits are wheelchair accessible; wheelchairs can be checked out free of charge at the Information Desk, and Behind-the-Scenes tours (when offered) are wheelchair accessible. A guest in a wheelchair can touch animals in any touch pool (staff can assist). Service animals are welcome, except inside Lorikeet Forest (a free-flight aviary - staff will assist the guest and animal) and at behind-the-scenes tours, VIP experiences, dive immersions and animal encounters for animal safety. For guests who are blind: free audio tours designed for blind guests at the Information Desk or via the Visitor Guide app (which includes VoiceOver), Braille visitor guides, and touch exhibits (rays, small sharks, jellies, crabs, tidal animals). For guests who are deaf: written show descriptions for checkout, closed-captioned exhibit videos, free sign language interpreters for tours and programs with four days' advance notice (call (562) 590-3100), listening devices in the Ocean Theater, and RF headsets/Telecoil neck-loops plus portable captioning screens in the Honda Pacific Visions Theater. The Aquarium's Map & Visitor Guide is also available in Braille and Spanish.
Sensory notesThe Aquarium partners with KultureCity for guests with sensory needs: sensory bags containing KCVIP badges, fidget tools, noise-canceling headphones and other resources can be checked out at no cost from Member Services, and staff receive continuous sensory-needs training. 'Autism Families Nights and Morning' are special low-cost evening and early hours in a quiet, autism-friendly environment. Pacific Visions offers sensory experiences including touchable coral-like sculpture, underwater soundscapes and rumbling theater seats; special Ultraleap mid-air 'virtual touch' devices let visitors who are blind and/or deaf feel the Pacific Visions film (request at the Information Desk; limited number per showing, film every 15 minutes), and Epson smart glasses providing closed captioning for the theater film are available at the Information Desk (limited number daily). Note the Pacific Visions Theater film also features strobe light effects.
